You Have One Wish!
Richard Waialeale1 Kings 3:9 (NIV)
9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?"
2 Chronicles 1:10 (NIV)
10 Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?"
When I read this story, it’s as if Solomon has one wish, what would he wish for? Millions of dollars? All the gold in the world? Win every battle he encounters? Instead, Solomon says to God, “give me a discerning heart, give me wisdom and knowledge to lead your people.” I would have never thought to ask for this godly request.
That is why I need the Bible to guide me in my decision making and praying to God. Requesting the things I can receive from God as long as I know how to ask.
Whenever I’m going through a struggle or a tragedy and I’m hurting, how do I ask God for help? I ask God to comfort me. God gives me the Holy Spirit who is the comforter. The Holy Spirit literally comes to dwell in me and puts the comfort of Christ inside me as we will walk through my pain together.
When there’s a decision to be made and I need help, I need discernment and God’s wisdom. I ask God to send the Holy Spirit who is our Guide and Helper, who will live in me and not only tell me what decision to make but also enable to make that decision.
Whatever I ask for, God sends the Holy Spirit who is the Comforter, the Helper, the Guide, the very presence of God living in me so that we can work it out together. That’s how I can call on the Lord.
Father I pray all these things in Your name and that I will learn to use them as they work in and through me. Amen.
