Walk in what Truth?

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

3 John 4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Observation

John is writing to Gaius, acknowledging him walking, living in the truth by helping strangers. The contrasting character John highlights is Diotrephes, who refuses to help believers.

  1. Gaius welcomes, receives, serves and gives.
  2. Diotrephes is self centered, self-serving, not welcoming and rejects others.

What a powerful message God sends through John to Gaius - to be read by the church. This little “text” of acknowledgment and instruction gives the children of God direction on who they should be as God’s children and how they should live and act towards believers, even strangers.

Application

Ouch I’m convicted...a sense of holy guilt of my inner self serving ways and heart. Is this THE TRUTH I MUST WALK IN??!!

I can be soooooooo selfish and self centered. And it works its way out with “cover up” words and expressions.“ The facade of ”false humility“ is something that creeps up on me. Maybe more directly...lives in me! Ouch!

Prayer

Dear Jesus - I repent again! Please continue to share Your grace with me to be a genuine son of God and help me to live with a purity of heart. I know this comes from You - I have You - now may I continue to yield to You! Help me to quickly recognize any self serving ways, and live in a way that honors You! This is the TRUTH I WANT TO WALK IN!
