Secrecy Revealed
Rod ShimabukuroAnd this occurred because the people of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods and walked in the customs of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel, and in the customs that the kings of Israel had practiced. And the people of Israel did secretly against the LORD their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city. 2 Kings 17:7-9
The people of Israel, specifically Samaria, were taken captive by the Assyrians, because they sinned against the Lord. Verses 14-18 record some of the specific violations made against the Lord.
• would not listen
• were stubborn
• did not believe in the LORD their God
• despised his statutes and his covenant
• went after false idols
• followed the nations that were around them
• abandoned all the commandments of the LORD their God
• made for themselves metal images of two calves
• worshiped all the host of heaven and served Baal
• burned their sons and their daughters as offerings
• used divination and omens
• sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD
• provoking him to anger.
I will live differently by receiving the warnings given through the above passages. I can think I’m “secretly sinning” but the Lord will find me out. The inner thoughts and temptations of being judgmental, cynical, critical, the inner lusts of my flesh, ungodly thoughts and desires...could potentially grow up in me, to become sin.
So today, as I spoke about in Psalm 130 - My Hope is in God, through Jesus! I desire to live for Him and live apart from the list of ungodly decisions noted above.
Dear Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit!
In You all I trust. In You I place my hope and confidence that I will live victorious through who Jesus is, and what He’s done as the Son of God on earth. The Kingdom mission has been accomplished, through Jesus. Now I live fully, in strength and hope - that You O God will equip and enable me to live out Your Kingdom call! No secrets n this heart. Please help me to be pure in heart, soul, mind and life!
