Pursue God's Promises

Richard Waialeale

Scripture

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Observation

Pursue God on the basis of His promise.

I read a story about a baseball player named Rickey Henderson, of the Oakland A’s. It’s a true story. When Rickey got his first sizable check from the Oakland A’s – It was a million dollar check. A week after he got the check, the business department of the Oakland A’s contacted Rickey Henderson and asked him if he got the check. He said he got it, but the business department explained that it hasn’t cleared our offices yet, we need to reconcile our books and this is not a small amount of money. They asked him, “what did you do with the check?” Rickey Henderson said, “I framed it, and I hung it on my wall.” They explained to him, you’re not a millionaire if you hung the check on the wall. There’s a process to activate the funds.

That is what it’s like with the Word of God. You can’t just take His Word, His promises and put it on the bookshelf and think you’ve activated God’s promises.

Application

Until I pursue the promises of God, I wont see the victory.

I need to get the Sword out of the sheet (Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God), get that check off the wall, and get the promises activated in my life.

I cannot just know about the promises of God and think it’s going to fall in my lap. There’s a process to activate God’s promises – I have to pursue it to activate the victory in my life.

Prayer

Lord thank you for all the promises and blessings in my life. I actively pursue the promises you have for me declares the Lord of Hosts. Thank you for loving me and showing me the riches of Your love. Amen.
