What's most important?
Ken SilvaExodus 35:1-3
Moses assembled the whole Israelite community and said to them, “These are the things the Lord has commanded you to do:For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a day of sabbath rest to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it is to be put to death.
Moses gathered the entire Israelite community including its leaders to relay what God had shared with him. At this time the priority was the building of the Tabernacle. Resources, manpower, time and energy were being devoted to this task. Even in the midst of this “busyness” Moses reminded the community of the importance of the Sabbath. The Sabbath wasn’t optional, it wasn’t something you could choose to ignore, it was a mandate from the Lord. It was a necessary action to rest the body, mind and spirit. But the most important reason for the Sabbath was to focus on God. To be right with the Lord.
In the midst of our lives, whether in ministry or not we all have a full plate. At times we’re barely hanging on trying to meet the demands of our jobs, being attentive to our wives and supportive of the many activities our kids are involved with. We get up face a full day, get home, barely have enough time to eat and interact with the family, then the alarm goes off and we’re back at it again. The Sabbath is a reminder to us, to me for sure, that the most important thing, the most essential thing, is to spend time with the Father. A solid, healthy relationship with Christ allows blessings to be released and our lives to be recentered. I need to remember that all the busyness, all the tasks, all the expectations mean nothing if I stray from the Father.
Dear Lord thank you for your Word today. For speaking into my heart and reminding me of what is truly important. Let me take the time “to be still and know that you are God”. Dear Lord I love you and thank you for all things, Amen.
