Building Altars of Memories
Richard WaialealeGenesis 12:7 (NIV)
7 The Lord appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
Genesis 13:18 (NIV)
18 So Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the Lord.
In the Bible, each time the Lord appeared to Abram, or Moses or any of these great heroes, they always remembered God by building an altar. There are certain places in my life that the Lord appeared to me, I remember these significant places by building a place in my heart that will remind me of the time I heard from the Lord. I might not have built a physical altar, but in my journaling, I build a reminder that on this day, at this place, God paid a visit to me and spoke to my heart. These are important points in my life to keep as reminders of God’s visit in my life.
*In Hilo, 1997.
*Walking around the Ala Wai, when I was transitioning in ministry.
*Walking in front of Queens Beach, again a transitioning period.
*During my quiet time at Ward Theaters Starbucks.
These are the most significant places I remember hearing from the Lord.
I believe since God is everywhere, He hears my prayer all the time and when I call out His name and answers me, it could be anywhere. So the place and time is actually insignificant but my heart to hear from Him is very significant. I believe I can hear from Him anytime and anyplace, but those times that I heard from Him the most are very real and significant to me. They are very precious to my heart. Keep alert and be intentional with recognize His presence in and around me.
Lord I’ve had the blessings of hearing Your voice and sensing Your presence around me. I follow You all the days of my life and take time to visit with You on a daily basis throughout the day, In Jesus Name. Amen.
