6 Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.
7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness
8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
Paul’s instructions to Titus shows me that Titus is a young pastor leading a church consisting of a good mix of people (probably lots of young adults and youths. One of the best advise a leader can give to a younger disciple or pastor is to “promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching.”(Titus 2:1 (NLT). Paul’s initial instructions as he begins chapter two is to simply walk and talk like Jesus. Interesting to observe that the teaching and instructions doesn’t change, it’s still all about Jesus. Just the character and group dynamics are different.
At the end of the day, it’s all about Jesus and getting back to the one who our lives reflects. The book of Titus shows me the same important examples and reminders for young and seasoned leaders: self-control; teaching with integrity; serious and sound in my conversations. The leadership lesson is that it all starts with me, then I can then teach what Paul is talking about to these great young leaders in the church.
Father I thank you for the next generation and the potential inside each of these who love Jesus. I pray to be the example of those wanting to learn to walk and talk like Jesus. Thank you for the lessons from TItus. Amen.
