“Timothy’s”...where are you?
Rod ShimabukuroFor I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. [21]For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. But you know Timothy's proven worth, how as a son with a father he has served with me in the gospel. Philippians 2:20-22
This endearing, loving and confident relationship between Paul and his protégé Timothy is portrayed in these verses. This was after a beautiful depiction of Jesus, written of by Paul - of Jesus’ character displayed through His selfless, human-godly character.
Paul wrote of Jesus’ genuine humility and obedience as our example, to live a life looking out for others interests. Then in v20-22, Timothy is described by Paul, as having genuine concern for others. I think Paul was intentional about establishing Timothy’s faith, reputation and relationship - with Jesus and Paul.
I have this desire to develop Timothy’s. Disciples who are like spiritual sons, proven serving others with the Word of God. I want to invest in Timothy’s - who will develop genuine care for others, seeking others interests more than their own.
This heart and life needs to start with me. Will I be the disciple who will embody, then exemplify the selfless character of Jesus? I want to be. It will require time, energy, sacrifice of “ME” desires. Am I willing to be selfless? I know how selfish I can be...wanting to be in control, have control, take control.
Lord,
Help me to be less controlling of my life, I want to be selfless from the inside of my heart. Thank You for always convicting me back towards selflessness. Thank you for Your forgiveness of my selfishness. Please help me to be a disciple, who makes other disciples. Help me to seek out “Timothy’s” I can invest in for Your glory and Kingdom’s purposes.
