The Trials and Lesson of Joseph
Tim Savage21But the Lord was with Joseph in the prison and showed him his faithful love. And the Lord made Joseph a favorite with the prison warden. Genesis 37
Each time I read about Joseph’s life I am reminded that God is in control of all circumstances and that He works all things together for my good. Before ascending to a position of power and authority, Joseph faced horrible and heart-breaking adversity. Sold in to slavery by his brothers and thrown in to prison because of a false accusation, his is a story that should have had a different ending, but our God creates different endings. He takes the broken pieces of our lives and fashions beautiful mosaics. I’ve experienced this, as have so many others that I know, who continually speak of God’s power and love through miracle turnarounds.
I hate to say it, but I need trials in my life to point me back to Jesus. When everything is going my way, pride takes root. With success, I too often begin to depend on myself and make plans for myself, relegating Him to a lower priority, the backseat. Obstacles knock me down and cause me to think deeply and forces me to ask Him for help, it’s a reminder that I am not in control and I have to go to my knees and submit to my Creator. Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
He can’t give me more until I’ve proven that I can steward what I have. Joseph was a better ruler because of the experiences that God put him through. I am more compassionate and humble because of the trials that I face. God is in control and my faith is strengthened when I live with the belief that He loves me, wants the best for me and has a plan greater than my own.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I ask for Your help through my trials. Grant me strength and courage to continue to do Your will. Please give me wisdom and discernment to see and understand the answers You provide daily, but I am usually too blind to notice. Thank You for Your love, protection and provision. May I live my life in a way that pleases You.
In Jesus name,
Amen
