Praise or the Rocks Will

Carl Higashi

Scripture

Luke 19:39-42 NASB

And some of the Pharisees in the multitude said to Him, "Teacher, rebuke Your disciples." And He answered and said, "I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!"And when He approached, He saw the city and wept over it,saying, "If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes

Observation

Jesus comes into Jerusalem riding on His donkey and is greeted by a crowd of people cheering for Him. While the majority was cheering, there were Pharisees who were not part of the cheering for Jesus as He came. Jesus recognizes the difference between hearts of humility and hearts that are prideful. There was much to cheer for, miracles were done, people healed, lives changed, demons cast out, and here comes Jesus.

This exact time and happening was also fulfilling the Prophecy of ZechariahRejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.(Zec 9:9 NAS)

While this exact moment of biblical prophecy was coming to life, all those who were there did not fully understand what God had planned for the redemption of all His people. The Pharisees who were religious leaders and experts, should have known of this fulfillment, but were instead blinded by their prideful hearts. They were looking down upon Jesus’ disciples and wanting Jesus to correct them. Jesus tells them that if the people did not cry out, that the rocks something that was dead would cry out! The Pharisees were rebuked by Jesus, saying that the rocks would praise Him even if His disciples did not.

Application

I need to give praise Jesus more and more each day!

The praise of Jesus acknowledges His presence. The praises to Jesus will lift my eyes, heart, hands, and life to Him. Praise reminds me that I need a Savior, that He is the one that all miracles came from, and that the One who gave His life for me will overcome all my trails. Praise takes me from where I am to where He is and He is glorified!

Prayer

Lord in this New Year I praise and thank You Lord. for the miracles that you have done. You have allowed the healing of me from life threatening illness and have blessed our family with wonderful relationships and ministry. I thank You for being in my life.

May I yet praise You more the rest of my days, else the rocks cry out! Love you Lord! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
