ConfidentConfident Living and Thinking
Rod ShimabukuroFinally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9
Paul exudes a great confidence in Jesus. It’s not that he is arrogant or pompous because of the authority, position and anointing he’s been given by God. There is undoubtedly a suffering and losing of life, through which Paul has gained this confidence in Jesus - not of the flesh or works.
Then I read Paul’s instruction on what to focus my thoughts and mind on! he shares with a God confidence to PRACTICE what they’ve HEARD and SEEN in him! I don’t think he’s saying he’s the perfect role model. But he’s given himself to the teachings and life of Jesus, who has empowered him to live with unashamed boldness and confidence for the Godhead.
This passage really encourages me. Well...it actually discourages me a little because I fall so short in thinking thoughts and cultivating godly desires as Paul teaches in v.8-9. But today, I choose... I choose to live and THINK DIFFERENTLY. I will clothed my sometimes sinful mind, knowing I have the mind of Christ, with thoughts Paul urges me to think.
