A Father's Love
Ken Silva1 Kings 2: 2-3
"I am about to go the way of all the earth," he said. "So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go."
King David exhorts his son Solomon to "be strong and act like a man" as he lay on his deathbed. His desire wasn't for Solomon to be a warrior king or even a competent statesman. His desire was for him to follow and be obedient to the law and the will of God. Through obedience the Lord would provide Solomon with courage and wisdom to rule a nation. David wouldn't be there to guide his son but the Lord's promises would remain intact if Soloman was obedient.
Like David I have a son whom I love dearly. Reading the scripture I couldn't help but think about my boy and hope that I have been diligent in guiding him into the Lord's blessings. The "world" today is a very deceiving, difficult place to stay on the right path. The best thing I can do for my son is to model my love foe Christ in such a way that it is appealing to him. That my son will seek the Lord wholeheartedly and be equipped with the skill sets for a bountiful life.
Dear Lord I thank you for your unending love for me. I pray that my son will draw near to you and that he will see me as role model to follow. I can only do so much for him but if he turns to you all things are possible. Dear Lord be real to Riggs and help him to develop a personal relationship with you. Amen
