An Obedient Faith
Rod ShimabukuroNow to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages [26]but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith—[27]to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen. Romans 16:25-27
Paul bookends the “Gospel” - the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes in Rom. 1:16 with this closing praise of “being strengthened according to the Gospel - the preaching of Jesus (Rom. 16:25) He defines the Gospel which is the grace of faith in Jesus, a salvation made available to all - Jews & Gentiles. I also see that v.25 says that we are strengthened by the Gospel and preaching of Jesus.
The result of Gospel believing people is an obedient faith that brings glory to God through Jesus. Its through God’s will, God’s command and providence that we are even led to possess an obedient faith.
Obedient Faith. Can I have a disobedient faith? Seems like a paradoxical statement. Words that seem contrary to one another. Since this phrase sticks out to me - I desire to have and develop a strong and obedient faith. I’m thankful for my growing faith through the study of the Gospel by the preaching of His Word.
I want to continue studying the prophetic writings, to grow this faith God has birthed in my heart. My desire is to live for the glory of God - having an obedient faith in all areas of my life. Most definitely in the areas of my personal and family relationships.
God - You know I need You to strengthen me according to Your Gospel - Your Holy Word. Thank you for the preaching and teaching of Your Word that is strengthening my heart to have a strong and obedient faith. Help me specifically in the area of my relationships at church and in my home - with Beckie, Kai, Koa and Malia!
