Send For Him
Richard Waialeale1 Samuel 16:11 (NIV)
11 So he asked Jesse, "Are these all the sons you have?" "There is still the youngest," Jesse answered, "but he is tending the sheep." Samuel said, "Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives."
In today’s reading, God sent the prophet Samuel to look for the next king of Israel. After rejecting Saul.
1 Samuel 16:1b (NIV) Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king."
We don’t always know who God chooses – the next person, for what God has plans for.
That’s kind of like the story of our lives. Where we came from, to where we are today. Only that it had to be God.
1 Samuel 16:10-11 (NIV) Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, "The Lord has not chosen these." So he asked Jesse, "Are these all the sons you have?" "There is still the youngest," Jesse answered, "but he is tending the sheep."
He’s an after thought. Surely he has no place, no consideration to be the next king.
You don’t want him in here. He’s been with the sheep, he’s going to smell up the place, he sleeps out there.
Samuel says this, "Send for him…"
Here it is: I’m grateful for a God who will send for me when everybody else seems to have forgotten about me.
Everyone is a ten somewhere in God’s kingdom. When everyone else thinks nothing of you - Jesus says, I can use him/her even though they’ve been divorced; even though incarcerated; or gang related; whatever and wherever you’ve been - God says, “Send For Him.”
Jesus says, No, send for him because I’ve got grace for that, and I’ve got mercy and forgiveness. And I can use the sin that brought so much shame and I can turn that thing around. Send for him.
Through God’s power and Grace, he uses me and he can use anyone for His purposes.
Lord as I look back in victory, and I see how much you love me and lifted me from where I was and displayed your mercy and forgiveness. I thank you Lord for using me to save live and win souls to the kingdom. In Jesus Name I Pray. Amen.
