Sweet Like Honey

Richard Waialeale

Scripture

Revelation 10:9-10 (NIV)

9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, "Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey."

10 I took the little scroll from the angel's hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour.

Observation

John describes the Word of God as being sweet like honey because of its revelation of the Grace of God and its many precious promises that belong to believers.

But to the unbelievers, it will be bitter when it brings divine judgement on them.

What I feel like today’s Word showing me is that I would never take a whole jar of honey and eat the whole jar, and just stuff the whole thing in my mouth?

If I did, I’d feel pretty sick. I would take a spoon, dip it in the honey and pull out a spoonful then eat that and it tastes great. It’s satisfying. It’s just enough and I’m not over indulging, I’m eating in moderation.

I think that’s what it’s like to digest or internalize the wold of God in our lives.

Application

All that’s necessary for me is bite sized chunks of the Word of God and then internalizing what each scripture means to me. Then, allowing it to be absorbed into my heart and into my soul. Take only the scriptures, as bite size or only a spoon full, that really touch my heart and soul, and go deeply with that, allowing in to work inside of me. The question as I read my devotions each day is: What passages of scripture have I recently been dipping into God’s Word and sensing its sweetness in my life?

Prayer

Lord thank you for Your Word. I pray to be filled each day and handle only on the bite size chunks that I can apply in my life. All I need is justa little, to fully engage with You in my life, I pray these things. Amen.
