Spirit Inspection

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. [16]Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Timothy 4:15-16

Observation

With firm direction on what spiritual leadership looks and behaves like, Paul urges Timothy to put into motion what he (Paul) instructs. There is a place for self evaluation according to standards set by Biblical mentors in the Bible.

I think there is great value in being properly introspective as we desire to grow and mature to be conformed to Jesus’ image. Proper Introspection includes being God pleasing not self gratifying or promoting. Having the right motives has a lot to do with proper introspection. In order to measure our progress, I believe my motive needs to include being God glorifying, not Rod glorifying.

Application

So much of leadership development could be self promoting. We could be great inspectors of ourselves, improving as leaders, people, etc - but missing the “God pleasing” mark!

I would love to live differently by repenting of any wrong, sinful motives in my desire to grow as a spiritual leader. To be God centered and pleasing is the deep longing, but yet I find myself wrestling with my stink in’ pride, wanting to be noticed and recognized. I need the Spirit’s convicting help to keep inspecting my heart according to His Word. Are my motives and desires aligning with the heart and character of God?

Prayer

Ahhhhh!!! That’s the question I need You to remind me of Lord! I want You to be Lord of my every hearts desire and motives! Thank You for searching my heart by Your Holy Spirit! You are the Best searcher, inspector and help - leading me to be conformed into Jesus’ image! Thank You Spirit of God!
