Mindful Leadership
Aaron Cordeiro“For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your
grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.
For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through
the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power
and love and discipline.” (2 Timothy 2:5-7)
We know that the book of Timothy is a Pastoral epistle, which means a
shepherding or coaching letter to young Timothy from Paul. This particular passage
of scripture or Paul’s letter deals with guarding ones faith and trust in God because
our trust in God can sometimes shy back, recuse itself, or become timid. The result
is as we see is a decrease in power, love, and discipline. How does our trust in God
go from bold to timid? One day strong and the next day weak? We know that facing
trials will wear one down, but even in doing well the scripture says we can get
weary.
Being a young leader myself and a coach to other young leaders something
was highlighted today how Paul shepherded young Timothy back to that gift of faith
and trust in God. The first thing Paul says is “I am mindful of the sincere faith with
in you Timothy!” What Paul is saying to this young man who’s been working hard,
who is tired, and timid is...”I am thinking about you, I understand what you are
going through, you mean a lot to me, I am proud of you son!”
Paul took time to exhort the young exhorter. Who gives to the givers, who
loves the lovers, and who is going to encourage the encouragers. Well this is what
Paul does as a leader of young leaders and teaches us a valuable lesson of coaching
young leaders who lost or is in jeopardy of losing the drive, love, and discipline in
life because of weariness.
I am challenged today to list out the young Timothy’s in my life express how
much they mean to the Lord, starting with my own family. I feel so encouraged
today because though this is an example Paul share with me to do this is what the
Lord would speak to every young one with that precious gift of faith who needs to
kindle afresh their faith.
Thank you Lord,
For reminding me that Your gifts are not timid, powerless, unloving, or
undisciplined but just the opposite. Thank you for encouraging me today in these
matters and give me wisdom to encourage our young ones to constantly kindle
afresh what you’ve given them. In Jesus Name Amen!
