Prayerful Submission & Obedience

John Tilton

Scripture

Hebrews 5:7-10 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Observation

Imagine Jesus who knew he was the son of God offering fervent prayers to the Lord with cries and tears rather then assuming that as the son of God he could be saved. It showed his faith in the Father and the Father’s plan, thus being reverently submitted to the Father’s plan and will for his life. And although he was the Son of God, his obedience enabled him to learn through his suffering, subsequently becoming perfect, and the source of eternal salvation and designated to be the high priest. It was the process and His faith in God that gave him the strength through tears and cries to persevere in submission to the Father’s will and plan.

Application

I am encouraged that when times get challenging or when I cannot see the answer I am hoping for or the light at the end of the tunnel to see the clear path, that I will remember to continuously cry out to God with fervent prayer and submission, standing on His faithfulness. I look forward to learn and grow on the way being encouraged that I am in His plan and will.

Prayer

I pray that in times of challenge Lord, I will be reminded to have the mind and fortitude to cry out to you in prayer and submit to you standing on your faithfulness that I will learn and grow and be made into the person you want for your plan and will.
