Lord I believe

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

John 9:35Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” 36“Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.” 37Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.” 38Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.

Observation

A man born blind, was miraculously healed when Jesus took dirt and saliva, mixed it, placed it over the blind mans eyes - then instructed him to wash in the Pool of Siloam. He was instantly healed. Rather than rejoice, Pharisees were upset, interrogating the blind man, his parents, eventually rejecting the healed man’s testimony.

Here Jesus approaches the healed man, who has not yet become a believer or disciple. There was no church service, preaching, drama, dance or song. No concert, lights, camera’s - it was no where near a tent revival with an arousing altar call. Jesus initiated the question - Do you believe in the Son of Man?

The man’s response cut’s to the point. “Lord I believe.”

Application

My take away is my earnest prayer and desire for God to touch lives miraculously, drawing people to Himself. It is the Lord who initiates relationships and calls people into relationship by believing. Believing seems to be watered down in our western American church world. Can we separate a surrendered heart and a surrendered life? Yet a surrendered heart is what we seem to define “believing in Jesus” today. But it’s more than saying “The Sinners Prayer.”

Say a prayer, believe with your heart, confess with your mouth - that Jesus is Lord (which is Bible). But the covenant to surrender doesn’t just involve your mouth and heart - BUT YOUR LIFE, under the Lordship of Jesus.

Prayer

Lord help me not to water down, teaching, guiding and calling people into believing in You. With all their heart, soul, mind and LIFE…!!
