Fireproof

Marsha Kochi

Scripture

Daniel 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. 17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18 But even ifHe does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

Observation

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego would not submit to the Babylonian lifestyle, lest they would become like them. Nor would they bow down to Nebuchadnezzar, their loyalties, their love for God, their faith was much deeper than anything that they could possibly go through. Even if the furnace was hotter than normal, these three men knew that God would save them.

Application

I want that kind of faith, the faith that these men had. To know beyond a doubt that God would save them as they were being tied and thrown into the fire. There is nothing that they could do, nor a person that could help them. They made no excuses, nor did they try to get out of it. All they knew was that God had the power to save them. What a beautiful feeling, to not have any doubt that God would be with them no matter what they had to go through, no matter how it looked with their human eyes, they did not worry about what would happen.

Prayer

Thank You Lord for a perfect example of faith beyond the human capacity, but faith that can only come from a deep love for You. Help me to be steadfast in obedience, to do all that I can to be one with You. No matter what fires I may be put through, or how hot it gets, help me to trust in You, and not take my eyes off of You.
