Be Kind and Gentle

Tim Savage

Scripture

24A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. 25Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. 26Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants. 2 Timothy 2

Observation

There are so many important lessons today from Jonah and Timothy, but with the decision from the Supreme Court today regarding same-sex marriage I wanted to re-post something that helped me to process. It’s from the Presidential Prayer Team:

Dear Prayer Team,

Statement regarding today’s ruling by the Supreme Court on same-sex marriage:

Marriage is an institution created by God thousands of years before the United States

was founded. [Matthew 19:4-6 - “He answered, ‘Have you not read that He who

created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore

a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall

become one flesh’?So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has

joined together let not man separate." (ESV)]

The marriage covenant is still God’s creation and should not have been changed to

accommodate a secular worldview.

The question you may be asking is, “What do Christians do when our country’s leaders

rule in opposition to what God has plainly stated in the scriptures?” We should thirst for

the opportunity to follow God’s word even in the face of extreme opposition. We should

honor our country but, first and foremost, we should honor God. The Prayer Team is

standing on the truth of scripture for our foundation.

Now, more than ever, we need to be praying for our leaders, our nation and for those

who don’t understand that this is a spiritual battle. [Ephesians 6:12 – “For our struggle

is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against

the powersof this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly

  1. Prayer is the most powerful tool we possess. We ask you to pray with

us that God will not forsake this nation and that He will send leaders to Washington

who will honor His Word and will seek to protect the rights of believers.

Let’s Keep Praying!

Your Prayer Team

Application

2 Timothy 2:24-26 reminds me that, as the world quickly strays from the word of the Lord, I must be kind and gentle in my example and loving in my relationships, in hopes that people will return to God.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Show me Your ways, that I may represent You well to a world that, like the Israelites of old, is forgetting their Creator.

In Jesus name,

Amen
