Learning to Serve

Calvin Kochi

Scripture

27They *came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders *came to Him, 28and began saying to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things, or who gave You this authority to do these things?” 29And Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question, and you answer Me, and then I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

Mark 11:27-28

Observation

It is funny how these men would question Jesus about what authority that Jesus was doing these miracles. They themselves should of known as to the why and how Jesus did what He did. The reason it they didn’t understand is that they themselves didn’t submit themselves to any authority other and their own. On the other hand Jesus was totally submitted to the Father. In fact He came to the will of the Father.

Application

It wasn’t because Jesus didn’t know where His authority came from that He didn’t answer. Jesus was given all authority to do what ever He needed to do. But He used it to serve others. I can be like these Pharisee’s who question authority and never submit to it. The lesson that I am learning if you want authority you must be able to submit yourself under authority, and able to use it well. The greatest use that I can do with my authority is to serve,

Prayer

Lord help me to be a better servant to you and to others
