Disguised by God: The Undercover Tough Guy

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Genesis 42:22Reuben replied, “Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood.” 23They did not realize that Joseph could understand them, since he was using an interpreter. 24He turned away from them and began to weep, but then came back and spoke to them again. He had Simeon taken from them and bound before their eyes.

Observation

Joseph was now playing the UNDERCOVER TOUGH GUY. He was in charge, having been rejected, abandoned and prostituted into slavery by his very own brothers years prior. Now he was a ruler in Egypt, undercover and disguised by the sovereignty of God - to now serve his immediate family and the nation of Israel.

So in this passage above, the drama continues to unfold. The brothers are now on the receiving end of rejection, fear for their lives and experiencing the woes of what they earlier sowed by beating and selling Joseph.

I see a picture of the mercy, love and compassion of Jesus - having turned his cheek, being ridiculed, betrayed and crucified - handed over to his enemies. Joseph’s tears illustrates the kindness of God in his heart. A tenderness and love for his family, although betrayed at one time, Joseph now has the power to give life.

Application

THANK YOU GOD - THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU!!!!! My heart is bursting, erupting with gratefulness - and overwhelming joy and love fills my heart for YOU - MY GOD! That I can call you my God - is mercy in itself! I want to be like Joseph. I SEE YOU LORD and KING…being so self less in love. Your unconditional love is revealed to me. Someone You can disguise like Joseph, to use to bring and give life!

I am just so sinful when it comes to situations where I feel like I’m being used, neglected, rejected…! In my little ways when I feel like people take advantage of me, I want to retaliate with a vengeance. I get so upset with myself, feeling so immature on the inside.

  • BUT - I’m soon grateful that You do help me, to overcome my sinfulness, helping me to recognize my sin in my heart - before they become words and actions!
  • DISGUISE me - to be a Life Giver!
Prayer

I LOVE YOU DADDIE GOD, JESUS KING and SPIRIT GUIDE!
